HFG at LA City Hall Testifying Against the DARK Act

At HFG/CFS, we are committed to food transparency and are working with elected officials to demand for GMO labeling. The Rules, Elections, Intergovernmental Relations, and Neighborhoods Committee met at LA City Hall on Friday, October 16th to discuss, among other issues, a resolution in opposition to H.R. 1599, a bill we call the DARK Act (Denying American’s the Right to Know) because it would deny voters the right to pass state bills to label genetically engineered foods and make mandatory labeling at the federal level impossible. Our team went down to the hearing to offer our strong support of the resolution. In addition, we reached out to all Councilmembers before the resolution was moved to full council. We’re happy to see that the resolution passed on 10/20 and that the City of Los Angeles has sent a strong message to Congress that the city will fight for their right to label GMOs.
